I've been complaining of holey jeans for about a year now ever since Bugs decided her favorite occupation is to be a kitty. Thus, lots of crawling around on her knees ruining pair after pair of perfectly good pants, new pants that cost a lot!
My friend Kim was over the other day telling me what her sister does. At the end of every school year, her sister cuts off the legs of all of her kids' pants (the girls), and sews ribbons and/or lace onto the bottoms. So Kim and I went to the store and bought some cute ribbons. She has a daughter the same age and has similar problems with pants.
I spent a couple of hours this afternoon fixing several pairs of jeans for Bugs. And now I don't have to go buy any shorts for summer! What a great fix! Thanks Kim!

Holey Jeans - The Solution For Girls

10 backward glances:
DO you seam or finish the leg before you put the ribbon on? I'm just wondering if they fray when you wash them- let me know. I think they are so cute, I just wish I could do that to Cooper's jeans HA
I did hem the bottom first because I was worried about the fraying. To save time though, I'll bet you could hem and sew the ribbon on at the same time but it may affect the integrity a little. Maybe you could do Cooper's with bandana fabric or soomething equally boyish. You sound like you're having similar woes.
Definitely have similar woes...I'm so gonna do this with Sarah's pants.
Hey you are welcome. B came home tonight and I showed hers to her and she wigged. I told her that you were doing that to some of Nat's pants and she play fainted! I guess that is good.
My favorites were the two with lace and I know you did the flowers so they'll be twins! I really liked the thicker lace the most - it just was a little harder to sew but way worth it. i wish i had more colors.
this is a very nice idea! now we dont need to buy new ones but just redesign them. and my little girl will ne happy to help :-)
Okay, those are about the cutest shorts I have ever seen! You are so good!
So so cute. I agree with Katie what do I do with the boys pants?
What a great plan...I think I am going to do this at the end of June for my girls too!
Ok Amy, I am totally sewing machine illiterate, but Jenna has 2 pair of jeans that still fit but have holes in the knees. Would you help me? Pretty please?!?!
