I'm Thinking That Moving Sounds Nice

Literally in less than 5 days, one and then two of my friends who live within 1/2 mile of my house have had their homes burglarized in broad daylight. Where are we seriously living?? This is supposed to be one of the top 100 safest cities in the nation!

Kelly had her car stolen right out of her garage not to mention the thousands of dollars of electronics and purely priceless memorabilia on her laptop that was stolen. Heidi also was robbed of her precious wedding ring - something that just can't be replaced.

I've spent this afternoon on the phone with neighbors, husband and my home-security company trying to figure out how this happened and how to avoid it happening to us! Short of locking all of my windows and setting the security system even when I'm home there's not much else that can be done. Talk about living like a prisoner. I hate it!

To my friends who have been violated, I'm sorry. I can't imagine the feeling of coming home to see that your belongings have been sorted through by a complete stranger whose sole goal was to make a gain from your sadness and loss. I certainly hope this creep(s) is caught soon.

I'm just sick about this too. I just can't believe that bad people can come in and steal without a thought of the victims. Someone is definately watching the neighborhood, but not in a good way :(

The problem with moving, of course, is that you might move away from some problems, but you move into other problems.

We have lived in two places where our next door neighbor was robbed. One had a moving van pull up and take nearly everything! It is no fun. It feels creepy.

Keep your homeowners insurance paid up. Keep your most-valuable things in weird places. Keep a light on. Don't let the jerks keep you from loving life.

Amy, Thank you. You are too kind. I just hope that it stops soon. I guess another person (Terry Martin) was robbed also. He lives at the othe end of Kelly's street.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Above the things that your friends have lost, is the shattered sense of security of their home. I hope it doesn't happen again.

I must admit I am glad I don't live there right now! But, don't be a prisoner. Don't let other people make you feel trapped! Take precautions and then move on, that is all you can do.

We are having the same problems in our city. Meth addicts are breaking into homes in broad daylight, terrorizing people and taking everything that isn't nailed down in the homes. Home security experts have told me realistically, there is little that can be done to keep out someone who is determined to get in short of a Fort Knox type security defense.

This may not be popular, but it is one reason I keep my .357 and .12 gauge shotgun loaded at all times and within easy reach. A door is easily knocked in unless you have one of those pole taps that holds back the door from being kicked in. It's a sad commentary on our society that we must live this way.

It made me really sad to read about your friends who had their things taken away like that. I live in a trailer park of all places... not because I have to but only because my rent is dirt cheap... I mean really cheap but I often worry about living here that some low life is going to break into my home... but I have lived here for five years and never had a problem. Your post made me a little weary though because I own a lot of computer equipment... ok well not a lot... but I own 3 computers and some external drives and I would absolutely die if that stuff was taken. Your post got me thinking about moving as well.
