Motherhood Indoctrination

If I wasn't fully indoctrinated into motherhood by my first daughter, then today's misadventure has ushered me in complete with a membership badge!

So there I was changing her diaper on my bed. I had her in the typical diaper changing posture - sort of spread eagle and I was applying the diaper rash cream which requires even a little more spread eagle pose. All of the sudden, it was like a poo geyser - only fast...and a lot! I literally was covered. Every single piece of clothing I was wearing, including my glasses, and all that she was wearing, AND all of the bed linens, and the bed frame behind me, were covered in baby poo. Yeah, that stuff that stains everything that comes remotely in contact with it.

I sat there stunned for a few minutes covered in my baby's poo, sort of startled by the power of the blast! And then I looked at the mess through poo covered glasses and started to giggle, then laugh out loud, glad that there were no witnesses. I mean, if you can't have a sense of humor about stuff like this you'll drive yourself nuts!

That's awesome! I was changing Lily yesterday and she just kept going... it was like a tube of toothpaste... but grosser! :)

HEHEHEHEH - that's too funny, Amy! That happened to me with our first child - at 3am! I learned that Walmart carries a pet stain and oder remover that got those stains out better than the baby stuff in the baby section! I feel ya - I laughed too!

The same thing happened with Ava, but at like 2AM and my second night alone with her. I did not laugh. I sat on bed room floor and cried!

Oh my gosh! We have a rule in our house that baby has to be changed on the changing table for times like that. It makes the clean up a lot easier. Sounds like the laundry just got bigger. Keep smiling.

I had an idea that this was far more common than one might think and you all proved it!

Steve: it's only sick if it's not your child. otherwise, it's just fine, right?

Aislinn: good tip! I'll have to remember that. Surprisingly though, Spray 'n Wash works wonders on these stains. I think ever baby is different in what takes those protein stains out. 3am? ouch!

Julie: you poor girl. at least i could hand off the baby to Todd when he got home (& get a shower!)

Rachel: changing table EVERY time? How fun is that? Now I have an excuse to change my bed sheets! Lol!

Oh, dear. This one needs to go in her baby book!

Definitely common. Been there, done that. One of my boys let loose in a Mother's Room at the church of all places. What a mess! You have it right though, you gotta laugh it off.

Amy, I think that the whole "it's not bad if it's your baby" line only works on mom. ;)

Amy said...

Joy: yes, it does! and wouldn't she just DIE when she's 17 and realizes i posted it on my blog when she was a baby! too late!

Christy: i figured as much.that i've avoided it until now is probably just luck.

Steve: so true.

It's totally not as gross if it's your baby. I was babysitting my not-yet-nephew-at-the-time and he was, like 2 or something, and he had the HUGEST, GROSSEST, MOST DISGUSTING diaper I have ever seen in my entire life. And I had to change him. Yet if it's my boy, it's still kinda groty, but not as. Still, gotta love Spray 'N Wash!!!

I love it! Thanks for the laugh.

Been there, done that. Never want to do it again. With me it was my middle child and I was at a car dealership. My 14 yr old son was with me, but all he could do was laugh. Needless to say I had to go home and change clothes before I could finish running my errands.

But the worst part was I had tried to change him in our truck. because the dealership did not have any changing facilities. So there was poo everywhere. Imagine trying to clean up that mess!!
