Homemade Ice Cream: I'm a Hero

We had a little Family Home Evening time ... this afternoon mainly because I've been procrastinating and finally decided I shouldn't put it off anymore.

Our activity at the end was homemade ice cream, something I've never done before. But it was a lot of fun and a huge success. We made Oreo ice cream and it seriously came out just like one of those Oreo Frosty's at Wendy's or McDonald's. It was so yummy!

Homemade OReo is my FAV!! We make it during the summer. It always turns out the best. We've done mint choc chip, strawberry, vanilla.... but OReo ALWAYS turns out best!!

Way to go you cute hero.

Wish I'd come over the day you made ice cream...or you had made it the day I was there! Can we do it again next Tuesday?

Since I got a few requests for the recipe, here it is.

1 1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups whipping cream (I only did 2 cups and then 2 cups evap milk)
2 cups cold milk
2 cups half & half
1 tsp salt
36 Oreos (calls for just 24 but I wanted more)

Scald the reg. milk until it's got little bubbles. Remove from heat, and add the vanilla, salt and sugar. Stir until it's dissolved. Add all the rest and chill for 1 hour. Then add it all to the ice cream maker and just process according to your ice cream maker's instructions. It hardened up better than the pic and was absolutely delicious! I used way more Oreos than the recipe and that's what made it so great!
